o⋅nus –noun, plural o⋅nus⋅es. 1. a difficult or disagreeable obligation, task, burden, etc. 2. burden of proof. Compare onus probandi. 3. blame or responsibility. Onus means being blamed for an act that you did not commit. For decades skateboarders and snowboarders have been blamed for the perceived destruction of our generation. Contrary to this, at Onus we celebrate the positive contributions that skateboarding and snowboarding have given to themselves as subcultures, as well as to the art world. At Onus, we feel responsible that our generation recognizes the value in art, individuality, adventure, and rebellion. That’s why we do things differently. Onus Art Company was born in 2002 in a small town outside of Chicago. What began as an entrepreneurial high school kid painting, screen printing, and crocheting hats for friends, soon turned into a mission to make clothing and art with exclusivity and fun as the only guidelines. A strong love for snowboarding brought Onus to Summit County, CO for five consecutive winters and quickly took root. Recently in 2009, Onus made a decision. This wasn’t just a hobby. This was a something we had to do. Since then, the line has expanded and developed a loyal following coast to coast. Skaters, riders, artists, and freethinkers who appreciate the significance of unique, one-of-a-kind pieces made locally by the same people who are out there doin’ it with you, this is for you. What does this all mean for you? It means every shirt that comes from Onus Art Company was designed and printed in-house by people who share the same passion for life, art, and shred as you do. It means your beanie was crocheted by hand so that each and every one is unique as you are. We think there is something to be said for doing it ourselves. We take pride in putting love and individual design into each and every piece, just for you. We want our clothes to be more than just clothes. We want you to know you’re wearing a piece of meaningful art with a story. Welcome to the Onus Art Company Family.
